Downtime in Eveningstar – Keeping Up With The Jonses

 June 19–21

3 Days in Town

The party restocks on supplies and hosts another, more modest feast at the Golden Unicorn, spending through the bulk of their remaining treasure from Delve 3. With the resulting bonus the experience Gimwort achieves level 2, and Eldred the Enchanter is a mere 50 XP away from doing the same.

The NPC party from Delve 3 is celebrating a successful raid against the orcs of one of Starwater Gorge’s many caves (the so-called “Caves of Chaos”). In addition to a fair amount of gold, the spoils include an enchanted hand-axe, a magic rope, a jeweled sword, and a valuable silver belt. Our heroes are rather jealous of this haul when compared to their own meager pickings in the Haunted Halls.

At the Feast

Trigg has not paid attention to the girl who sewed him his feastday shirt since last week, and her brothers are offended on her behalf. After the feast a drunk and sleepy Trigg is jumped and badly beaten before he manages to draw his dagger. One of the two men receives a slash across the face (narrowly missing his eyes) and the other ends up on the ground with Trigg threatening to cut his throat. The fighter has made lasting enemies of both men, and very likely the entire family if he can’t patch things up soon.

Tansybell drinks too much beer and challenges Gimwort to a wager to see which of them can slay more monsters on their next expedition. Gimwort accepts, laughing.

Taravol approaches Sassaran and presents her with an ivory bracelet (worth 100 gp), won from the orcs in the Caves of Chaos. He asks her to join his party, and she says she’ll think it over - it's been previously established that these two are fast friends, while her relationship to Eldred (the party's only other speaker of Elvish) is mostly professional.

While nodding over his cups, Old Dolf’s hand crossbow and golden bowl are stolen! Dolf is distraught – those were the only proofs of his successful adventuring career to date. Eldred accuses Berrybert the halfling of the theft. He did in fact do the deed, but is able to conceal his loot. Hooking his thumbs ostentatiously into his new silver belt, he gives the two a rude answer and accuses them of sour grapes over their own relative lack of success. Relations between the adventuring parties worsen.

The party is running short on money once again, with a little under 100 gp apiece and 1,013 gp in the party fund (they split the treasure 7 ways, with one share going into a common fund for emergencies). Eldred asks for some money from this fund to scribe a scroll, but Trigg feels that they can’t risk spending a full week in town after making enemies.

Goals

  • Trigg: earn enough money to make himself appear respectable; be a good captain to the party. He’s worried that he’s doing badly on both fronts.

  • Eldred: resolves to spend his money more responsibly by scribing scrolls and brewing potions.

  • Old Dolf: get his golden bowl back; become a Purple Dragon Knight and receive a kiss on the brow from Lady Winter.

  • Tansybell: impress everyone with her heroic deeds.

Gimwort and Sassaran do not have any particular goals at the moment. I think Gimwort is content to keep exploring dungeons with good companions, while Sassaran is restless and unsure of what she wants.
