Gryffindor: Clan McGonagall

 McGonagall

"ever steadfast"

had to be Maggie Smith

Sigil: a cat, white on brown

Skills: Transfiguration (expert) | Charms (basic) | Courtesy (basic) | Athletics (basic)

A small and secretive highland clan known for their deep faith. Most of the folk inhabiting McGonagall land are muggles, and while any wizarding clan of note will have muggle tenants the McGonagalls are unusual in the degree of muggle-magical integration they display. Many respected members of the clan's ruling council, while highly educated in magical history and theory, display no magical talent whatsoever. Meanwhile even a simple shopman or farmer in McGonagall territory may suddenly display some sorcerous air or hidden knowledge. Doors that should lead one place instead open onto others, windows appear to reflect light from the wrong time of day, and carven figureheads on the cathedral stalls seem to move when you aren't looking. Then of course there are the cats...

Gryffindor: Clan Haggríde

   Haggríde

"stout heart, strong bones"

Sigil: a hippogriff rampant, flanked by pumpkins, brown and orange on green

Skills: Creatures (advanced) | Herbology (basic) | Fighting (basic)

+3 Strength

Huge, black-eyed, hirsute, and speaking some kind of impenetrable woods-french, the Haggrídes are a gruff and insular clan. They roam the mountain trails and the paths of the Forbidden Forest and converse with the centaurs and spiders as equals, their hands as often upon an axe or crossbow as a wand. Their hearts are full of sorrow and rage against the Enemy, for the founder of the clan carried the bier of The Boy Who Lived at both his first and second deaths. Under the boughs of the Wild Wood black eyes turn towards Hogwarts Castle, and in secret moss-roofed halls great axes are being sharpened. They have not forgotten.

Inspired ActionGiant’s Blood

You may be a lesser son of greater sires, but the red blood of your ancestors still flows in your veins. You can spend Inspiration to perform a feat of great strength or become immune to all offensive spells (save for the Unforgivable Curses) for 1 round.

FlawBackwoods Barbarian

The subtleties and deceits of city-wizards are foreign to you. Enemies should be killed, allies should be supported, and when words must be exchanged they should be loud and to the point.

When you put yourself or your friends at risk by acting impulsively, you gain Inspiration.

Gryffindor: Clan Black

  Black

"all nights must end"

It was either this or Aragorn

Sigil: the dog and stars, black on orange

Skills: Fighting (advanced) | Transfiguration (advanced) | Creatures (basic) | Curses (basic) | Stealth (basic)

Wild-haired, dangerous, and well-liked, the Blacks bear a secret shame - many of their ancestors sided with the Enemy. These traitors were erased from the Black family tree and their names are not spoken save in a secret and solemn ceremony when a Black comes of age, where they are told the truth about their clan and swear to hunt down their fallen kin.

Gryffindor: Clan Granger

 Granger

"until all are free"

Sam Bosma
Sigil: an otter above an open book, white on violet.

Skills: Charms (advanced) | Curses (advanced) | Transfiguration (advanced)

+1 to Wisdom

Although their bloodline is of comparatively recent vintage (indeed, some heralds of the great wizarding houses claim that they are merely another cadet branch of Clan Weasley), the Grangers are strong, wealthy, and popular... at least among their neighbors and dependents (magical or otherwise). Their rule is bolstered by the largest collection of magical books in England and their fields and farms prosper under the blessing of the wood and field-elves, with whom the Grangers have long made alliance.

Gryffindor: Clan Weasley

 Weasley

"rise like lions"

Jamie from Outlander has red hair and looks cool, he'll do

Sigil: three ermine, gold on wine.

Skills: Athletics (advanced) | Fighting (advanced) | Stealth (basic) | Charms (basic) | Devices (basic)

When the Boy Who Lived returned from death for the first time, a Weasley was the first to recognize Him and do Him homage. Ever since the clan has profited from His blessing. It is also said that the Weasleys sheltered Him from His enemies for a time, and that He wed a daughter of their line. This last is regularly disputed by other wizarding families, but nevertheless the rare birth of a dark-haired or green-eyed Weasley is always a matter for hope and trepidation.

As one of the oldest wizarding families and the successors to Head of House Gryffindor, the Weasleys are a large and powerful clan. They share ties of blood with most of the great magical powers across the former United Kingdom and hold sizable territories in France as well through a cadet branch, the Wescourts of Shell Castle. Wherever a Weasley goes he is sure to run into red-haired cousins.

Night-Haunted Hogwarts: House Gryffindor

GRYFFINDOR

House Modifier: +1 Courage

Inspired Action: Brave at Heart

The Gryffindor spirit expresses itself in acts of courage and heroic sacrifice. You can spend Inspiration to make any roll using Courage (or which the Referee agrees demonstrates the positive side of the Gryffindor spirit) become Safe.

Flaw: Rash

Gryffindors are prone to behaving rashly, arrogantly, or quixotically. You can make any roll using Courage  (or which the Referee agrees demonstrates the negative side of the Gryffindor spirit) become Deadly. When you do, gain Inspiration.

Night-Haunted Hogwarts: Creating a Character

For an overview of the project, see here

Creating a Character

1. Stats

When creating a character, assign +1, +0, and -1 to Courage, Wisdom, and Cunning.

You may allocate these yourself or distribute them randomly by rolling a d6 for each stat and assigning the +1 to the highest roll, -1 to the lowest roll, and +0 in the middle.

All starting characters have Strength 6 and Luck 7.

2. House

Choose your character’s House. Each House is an extended network of clans, all related by blood, marriage, or bond of fealty. Originally these links were made to a founding family, but as those lines are extinguished in the modern age successor lines have replaced them as Head of House.

The four Houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.

When you choose your House, increase its associated Stat by +1:

Make note of your House’s Inspired Action and Flaw.

3. Clan

Choose or randomly determine your character’s Clan from among those aligned with your House.

Mark down your Clan’s starting Skills, Inspired Action and Flaw, and select two pieces of Clan starting equipment.

You may also choose or roll a name from one of those suggested for your clan or invent your own.

4. Spend Points

You begin the game with 20 Points to spend on improving your character. This is enough to take two skills from Untrained to Basic (10 Points each), one skill from Basic to Advanced (20 Points).

5. Equipment

In addition to the equipment you receive from your Clan, all characters begin play with a wand, a dirk, and 3d6 silver sickles.

6. Character Rank

You begin the game at Rank 0 (Novice)
