Hufflepuff: Clan Lupin

Lupin

"the wolves are among you"

Outlander has some nice costume designs

Sigil: the wolf and crescent, silver on grey.

Skills: Creatures (advanced) | Stealth (advanced) | Fighting (basic) | Herbology (basic) Transfiguration (basic)

The Lupins are a poor and rather disreputable hill-clan. Exiled to unproductive, marginal land, the Lupins are feared and despised for their howling warcry and odd pre-Roman rituals — they claim that the founder of the clan was suckled by a she-wolf and ran nightly with beasts whose speech he could understand, but also that he was among the chief councilors and warleaders of the Boy Who Lived.

Inspired ActionSheep’s Clothing

You can spend Inspiration to change your face with the application of a few family charms. This does not alter your clothing, however.

FlawWolfish Reputation

The Wolves have a sour reputation, and often face distrust and fear. When the weight of that mistrust wears on you, gain Inspiration and +1 Fatigue.

Starting Equipment –pick two–

  1. Wolf-hide mantle (Armor 1, Heavy)
  2. Sword (M) and shield (Armor 1)
  3. Matchlock musket, scrimshawed with charms to steady your aim (H, +1 to hit, Reload, unusable when wet)
  4. Bag of ragged disguises (ud6)
  5. Large tin of powdered chocolate (ud6)
  6. Hinkypunk lantern – reveals magical falsehoods. The spirit will cause trouble if let out.

Names

  1. Leopold

  2. Lucca

  3. Randolph

  4. Eleanor

  5. Leto

  6. Ulricca

Design Notes: in another kind of game the Lupin shapechanging power would be very strong, but in a strict dungeon-crawling game where time in town is mostly procedure-based and at least half of the creatures you're likely to encounter are animals, animated objects, or bloodthirsty undead who don't care what you look like I expect it will be a niche but useful tool. This is also why Wolfish Reputation is so easy to use - the opportunities to use it to represent social stigma (which is what this outsider character type is really trying to model) are likely to be very few in the setup that this game uses.

Names: wolf names, of course. Leopold sneaks in there for the alliteration, and because I couldn't bring myself to use "Ulf," "Rolf," or "Romulus," but don't let my squeamishness stop you if you feel so inclined.
