Hufflepuff: Clan Diggory

Diggory

"remember"

that handsome lad

Sigil: a chalice and teardrop, black on yellow

Skills: Charms (advanced) | Courtesy (advanced) | Transfiguration (advanced)

+1 Courage

The members of other Houses find it odd that Clan Diggory acknowledges the humble Sprouts as Head of House, for the Diggories are everything that one could want in wizarding nobility, wedding superlative skill to perfect courtesy. A famous story relates how during the feud with Clan Finch-Fletchley, Alberic Diggory famously sent an owl to the cave where the Finch-Fletchley band was hiding informing them of the time of his arrival and offering to carry any letters to their families after he had killed them all. The blood-feud ended when Alberic wed Jasmine Finch-Fletchley the following month. The two had fallen in love after Alberic delivered her three snapped wands and comforted her with the news of how well her brothers had died.

Inspired ActionInspiring

You strive to embody all that is best in wizard-kind. You may spend Inspiration to Inspire one of your allies who does not have it, even if they are currently Miserable or would otherwise not normally be able to gain Inspiration. That character may take an action immediately if they choose.

FlawCode of Honor

The Diggories are gallant and courteous to a fault. When you forfeit an advantage by behaving chivalrously, you gain Inspiration.

Starting Equipment –pick two–

  1. Golden chalice embossed with the family crest – A contract or promise sealed with a drink from this goblet is magically binding.
  2. Stone figurine of a labrador – can transform into a dog and back again
  3. Plate armor, quartered in the Diggory colors (Armor 2, Heavy) and silver badge (Ward 1)
  4. Heirloom broomstick (Heavy, see the Broomstick table).
  5. Portkey to town square of Hogsmeade
  6. Silvery-blue dragonhide cloak (Armor 1, Ward 1/Ward 3 vs fire, Heavy)

Names

  1. Cyrus

  2. Freeman

  3. Kennig

  4. Amity

  5. Bethamin

  6. Mercy

Design Notes: another variant on the paladin archetype. Straight-laced characters and characters who primarily support other players are a niche interest compared to the more madcap ones, but there's a role for the straight man - the bit of micro-fanfiction in their background writeup is there to serve as an example of how you might play an honorable paladin in a violent and clan-oriented picaresque setting. Equipment was a real reach here because despite appearing in a doorstopper novel we learn practically nothing about him as a character. I did have fun using the Hufflepuff colors, goblet motif, and mourning for the fallen hero bit to turn Cedric Diggory into the chapter master from the Lamenters space marines chapter in Warhammer 40k, however.

Names: going off of the theory that two points make a line (in this case "Cedric" and "Amos"), Diggory names are about king stuff and Quakerism.
