Gryffindor: Clan Longbottom

Longbottom

"we will not be moved"

Sigil: the oak and sword, red on white

Skills: Herbology (expert) | Fighting (advanced) | Courtesy (basic)

+1 Luck

Far famed are the sons and daughters of Neville Serpentsbane, champion of the Boy Who Lived, whose hand held the holy sword of Godric Gryffindor. Though the land is stained by the Enemy’s curse, it blooms when tended by the blood of that blessed line; their enemies fly before them while their vassals and tenants prosper.

Inspired ActionSerpentsbane

You may strike a mighty blow in desperate circumstances. When you strike an opponent with a weapon or spell you may spend Inspiration to deal +2 damage. If you are currently Afraid and are attacking the source of your Fear, you may instead spend Inspiration to make your attack roll Safe and gain the +2 damage.

FlawNever Surrender

When you set your mind on a course of action you feel is right, you would rather die than admit defeat. When you put yourself at risk by refusing to back down or retreat, you gain Inspiration.

Starting Equipment –pick two–

  1. Remembrall – once per expedition you may ask the Referee “am I forgetting something important?” The Referee will answer yes or no.

  2. Serpent-bane sword (M, +1 dmg to serpents and any who bear the serpent brand)

  3. Enchanted acorn – grows into an oak in a flash

  4. Curse-deflecting shield (Armor 1, Ward 1)

  5. Pair of enchanted coins – a mated set, the motto on the coins can display any message of exactly five words. The paired coin grows warm when its twin’s message changes.

  6. Gillyweed – grow gills and webbed digits if eaten. This transfiguration lasts for 1 hour.

Names

  1. Harold

  2. Perseus

  3. William

  4. Alice

  5. Frances

  6. Hannah

Design Notes: it's the paladin archetype! Neville is my brother's favorite HP character, so I felt I had to do his descendants justice with a heroic write-up. I also thought it was funny to transform Neville in the mythic history into a kind of Arthurian knight.

Names: with the exception of Perseus (chosen for its heroic character), the Longbottom names are meant to sound stout and English. Harold, Alice, and Frances are meant to imply that the family honors its heroic past (Harry Potter plus Neville's parents Alice and Frank Longbottom).
