Ravenclaw: Clan Patil

Patil

"to preserve and protect"

good thing Dev Patel likes making costume dramas

Sigil: the raven and stars, bronze on blue

The Patil clan, as Head of Ravenclaw House, operate Crookclaw College, the largest surviving school of witchcraft and wizardry in the modern era. Supplied in large part by the family fortune, library, and collection of magical curiosities, the school is a lonely bastion of enlightenment in the darkness of shadow-haunted Britain.

Inspired ActionSchool of Magic

You have received the best formal magical education in the country. When you cast a spell using its formal name (eg. Accio! or Expelliarmus!), you may spend Inspiration to make the roll Safe.

FlawAristocratic

The Patils are one of the most prominent European wizarding families, and are used to being treated with deference and respect. Your aristocratic hauteur may Annoy one of your companions, granting you Inspiration. An Annoyed character is Miserable until something unfortunate or embarrassing happens to you.

Starting Equipment –pick two–

  1. Book of spells, handwritten and annotated: +1 to cast any spell after 1d3 turns of consultation.
  2. Enchanted butterfly broach – can fly and deliver short messages.
  3. Tea set and very good tea (ud6)
  4. Sword-cane (M) and silver-chased pistol (M, reload, fire damage – shoots miniature shooting stars)
  5. Hat pin with Shield Charm (Ward 1)

Design Notes: The image of the Patils as the aristocratic heads of Ravenclaw House who operate a new school for witches and wizards is taken from the original Night-Haunted Hogwarts over at A Wizard's Kiss. I thought it was a great idea and wanted to carry it over to my version. The character concept of a book-learned wizard-knight really came together when I thought of also making this the class for people who remember all the silly dog-Latin spell names.

Names: I did my best with alliterative Indian names. However, I felt it was important for both the Patils and the Changs (coming up) to have one "European" name for both men and women. Night-Haunted Hogwarts technically takes place in the near future, so its imagined characters should be as diverse as the UK and Ireland are now. The Patils have been English (and the Changs have been Scottish) for generations at this point.
