Slytherin: Clan Crabbe

 Crabbe

"honor to serve"

Sigil: a mailed fist crushing a serpent, black and green

Skills: Fighting (expert) | Athletics (advanced) | Curses (basic)

+1 to Strength

The Crabbes have a reputation for brutality, having served Clan Malfoy for generations. In their secret ceremonies, however, the Crabbes recall that they once served a power older and greater than the Malfoys, and that they may do so again one day.

Inspired ActionInured to Pain

If you would suffer an Injury you may spend Inspiration to ignore it. Alternatively, you may intercept an attack, spell, or trap meant for another.

FlawSerpent Brand

Even the cleverest Crabbes are trained to silence and obedience. Their brands burn and their heads ache after too much inaction or riddling talk. When you put yourself or your companions at risk by acting aggressively, gain Inspiration.

Starting Equipment –pick two–

  1. Goblin-forged battle axe, huge mace, or claymore (H) - enchanted to fly to your hand when called
  2. Baroque goblin-forged armor (Armor 3, Ward 2, Very Heavy - occupies 3 inventory)
  3. Preserved head - knowledgeable, wants you to die but not at the risk of injuring itself
  4. Hand-cannon (4 dmg, Heavy, Finicky). Extremely loud, produces huge clouds of sulfuric smoke
  5. Cannon Names:

    1. The Password

    2. Young Draco

    3. Bucket o’ Blood

    4. Armistice Wallace

    5. Black Crochan

    6. Goodnight Sir

  6. Obedient manacles - move on their own & obey commands. Overly enthusiastic.
  7. Bag of dancing caltrops - can reposition themselves and be called back to their sack. Liable to give themselves away with malicious chuckling.

Names

  1. Antony

  2. Brutus

  3. Martin

  4. Calpurnia

  5. Irma

  6. Robin

Design Notes: of the four Houses Ravenclaw is the only one that doesn't have a barbarian character archetype. The Crabbes of course are the Slytherin one (it's Crabbe and not Goyle because Goyle dies in book 7). I'd expected to have a hard time making them interesting, but with shades of Lovecraft and Berserk in their background and an equipment list that ended up being surprisingly fun to write. How to do you make a big stomping Black Knight fit the Harry Potter house style? Funny names and medieval torture equipment enchanted to have the personality of Snidely Whiplash. Though not original to me, "The Password" is my favorite cannon name.

Names: I just went with what sounded right, trying to evoke a kind of high-class brute.
